FAITH

Out of all the sections on my website, this is the hardest to write.

Why? Because I’ve been so blessed, and yet, I still do such stupid stuff. I believe, but then I doubt. My intellect looks at a preponderance of evidence against any religious belief, IF one doesn’t look deeper, and I have to rationalize my faith against what seems ironclad proof.

But there’s an even bigger fear. A more serious — the MOST serious — problem of all. What if I mislead someone? What if I turn someone away from Christ, even if that’s not my goal, because perhaps I’m too honest in what mainstream science would have us believe, or because I come across as a jerk, maybe too much of a know-it-all?

Either outcome is not my wish. All I can do is try my best, and listen to where the Lord guides me.

A preacher of mine, and I may have heard this before, but it stuck with me hard when he said it, said, a loose quote:

“Believe in all your heart that Christ works through you to do great things, then WORK as if it all depends 100% on you.”

— Hadley Baker, Pastor, City on a Hill, Rowlett Texas

Because it does. You either do, believing in God’s providence, or you don’t.

You’re responsible for ONE thing: faith. But faith is the rock that leads to works.

Going forward, I hope that faith shines through, and I can build on that rock. This website is an outcome of MY faith. This comes directly from a few scriptures from James:

“For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.”
— James 2:26 (KJV)
“Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.”
— James 2:17 (KJV)
“But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?”
— James 2:20 (KJV)

If I’m asked, what is the summary of all Christianity, the main directive that should anchor every Christian’s actions, and summarize a Christian’s goals, and the ultimate test for any decision or belief, Jesus himself gave us the answers:

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
— Matthew 22:37-40 (NIV)
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”
— Mark 12:30-31 (NIV)

Also, In Luke 10:25-28, a lawyer asks a similar question. He actually quotes the command back to Jesus, and Jesus says, “You have answered correctly; do this and you will live.”

I hope everything I write can stand the test of these commandments. Amen.
